In Passing

Autumn’s leaving the blue ridge mountains, and since I have my PhD qualifiers coming up.. I find time to write  this, in passing.

——-

To yellow leaves in an october sky
stark and fresh in a backdrop so blue
does the wind rustling in the autumn trees
sing the same song to me as you?

To the patchwork quilt ouside my window
laid bare on the grass by an autumn rain
From over the streams that sparkle so clear
does the golden sunlight seem just as near?

To a speck of dust, now shining bright
caught in a ray above the floor
by a golden beam from a sunset far
who would now knock on my door?

Would if a prayer from deep in my heart
delay your fall by one more day,
allowing me a companion for a beat longer
under my feet, and along my way.
